Vapour rub is known to cure congestion. It is good for cold, pains and stuffiness. It reduces coughs and eases headaches. However, the shop-bought vapour rub contains nothing, but, the waste product of petroleum and unnatural nasties.
Making homemade vapour rub is not only good, it is free from chemicals and residues. It is what you put in that makes all the difference. Using natural oils, wax and essential oils cannot be compared with waste product sticky jelly only fit for dumping ground.
I used beeswax in my vapour rub and I have all the natural oils to go with it. Unlike petroleum waste products, beeswax is good for skin. It is not only free from nasties, it is beneficial to the skin and our environment.
You need essential oils when making homemade vapour rub. I used a combination of rosemary essential oil, peppermint essential oil, eucalyptus essential oils and lemon essential. Peppermint, eucalyptus and rosemary essential oils are necessary due to their healing properties and their spicy flavour. Other essential oils such as camphor, cinnamon or clove essential oil could be used in place of the aforementioned.Other essential oils also come handy for added benefits.
Beeswax contains Vitamin A, which is known to improves hydration and promotes cell regeneration.
Beeswax create a barrier when used on the skin and this help to protect the skin from environmental toxins and irritants. However, petroleum creams and jelly( the base of shop-bought vapour rub) block the pores.Beeswax allows the skin to breathe while providing a protective barrier.
To make homemade vapour rub you need the following ingredients:
Extra Virgin Olive oil, coconut oil or almond oil 20ml
Beeswax 5ml
Eucalyptus essential oil 50 drops
Rosemary 50 drops
Peppermint 50 drops
Lemon or lavender essential oil 20 drops
Container with lid
This is how I made mine
Melt your beeswax( beeswax comes in block or pellets). Measure 5ml melted beeswax and add it to your choice of oil. Melt together until the oil and beeswax mix up. All the ingredients could be purchased from http://Amazon
Add your essential oils to your oil mixture and stir well until combined. For babies and young children, use 8 drops of each of your essential oils.
Pour the mixture into your container, place the lid on.
Leave to cool and thicken up. Store in a cool dark place.
Use within 18 months.
