Protein is essential to human body. It has been proven that eating high- protein diet has loads of health benefit. Protein not only helps maintain a healthy weight, food rich in protein also aids weight loss. Protein also plays an important role in learning and concentration. It is part of protein’s job to stabilise blood sugar level while supporting muscles and bones.
Meatballs have been around for long. It is easy to make and delicious to eat. It is one of those foods which can be easily adapted. You can play around using different vegetables and herbs. I used tomatoes and sprouted grains along with other ingredients.
Meatballs dish is a healthy dish to include as part of your weight loss diet. To make my simple healthy high-protein meatballs in tomato sauce you will need the following.
Ingredients
500g lean mince meat
1 chopped red onions
400g chopped tomatoes
1 medium size egg
1 Green pepper Chopped
1 Yellow Pepper Chopped
25g sprouted grain crumbs or ordinary bread crumbs
2 tbsp of mixed herbs
1 tsp of sunflower or olive oil
Water
Pepper and salt to taste
1 tbsp of tomato puree
To start with, wash your hands and roll up your sleeve because you are going to go get a bit messy.
In a bowl big enough to house all the ingredients, crack and whisk the egg. Add the minced meat, bread crumbs, half of the chopped red onions and black cracked pepper to the whisked egg and mix together using your hands. Once all the ingredients combined, divide into balls around the size of a golf or squash balls.
Set the meatballs aside. Heat the oil in a large pan on a low heat. Add the meatballs and cook until brown ( cook for 10 minutes ). Once cooked, take the meatballs out.
In the same pan, add the rest of the onions and cook for about a minute. Add a splash of water, chopped tomatoes, chopped green pepper, chopped yellow pepper and puree tomatoes. Stir together, then add the meatballs making sure the tomato sauce coat the meatballs by turning gently. Season with salt and pepper if required. Cover and cook for another 10 minutes on a low heat. Simmer gently and your dish is ready.
This recipe serves up to 5 people. You can eat the meatballs alone or serve with spaghetti or bread.
